!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

2006 Audi A8 with 120k on the clock and, assuming the ad is truthful, everything works and drives perfectly with new brakes and tires. If the rebuilt title is because of the wrinkled rear quarter panel, I say NP because I don’t care about purely cosmetic damage.

Quoted for posterity:

Audi A8
2006 4.2l V8
Low miles Less than 9k per year 121K
Ice cold air, inspected till end of 2020, new brakes, new tires, everything works
Uses NO oil between changes, unheard of for Audi or all German makes
Awesome r unning car with no comparison at this price
Many many more miles left to go!!!
$2800.00

i’m wondering if the panel that’s damaged is alloy or steel

i’m guessing that’s why its been totalled too.

i heard the timing chain on a lot of audis is at the back of the block and requires removal of the engine, he may have just got a quote on that and decided it costs close to what the car is worth

The 4.2 V8 absolutely has rear timing chains. Anytime the timing chain maintenance ISNT mentioned, its because it needs it!

Fair enough, but at 2800 bucks, if it lasts a year it’d be a cool luxury whip.

Oh I agree, I lust for a biiigly V8 Audi. If the timing chains was the only thing that these cars were faulted for, I’d seriously consider one. I can wrench, I can even pull an engine, but old Audi’s have odd issues.

Electrical issues are dark magic and a big no-no for me.

Can confirm. I owned an E34 5-series, pulling the rear seat up and seeing all those electronic modules gave me chills down my spine.

“Unheard of” .... CP for the obvious engine out services etc. The used German flagship cars are always the best deal used but also the worst deal because then you own it.

OPPOsaurus: “$3k for an allroad?!? thats a deal, even if it only lasts for a year”

The 4.2 V8 only had a timing chain from the 2007 model year. The 2004-2006 came with a timing belt. Make sure they had the timing belt service. The latest factory recommendation is to replace the timing belt every 75,000 miles.

Electric issues on those are usually the comfort module that is under the drivers footwell... and can be underwater (and you don’t see anything unusual from the cabin) if the drain plugs are clogged.

Same can happen for the bluetooth module for the radio that is under the passenger footwell and can cause the radio to silently and randomly turn on when the car is stopped and cause battery drains (had this issue on my 2006 A4, i unplugged the bluetooth module and no problems anymore).

They look like that :

Another common issue with VAG products from this era (might still be a thing) are the electric cables on the door and hatch that are stretching and breaking, creating various minor issues (had one of the cables cut on my drivers door breaking the electric mirrors, repaired the cable and it works again ; a friend had a similar issue on his Skoda hatch, the rear brake lights were not always working correctly).

And a common one (not VAG specific) is the alarm siren that has the old li-ion battery that leaks acid on it’s circuit board creating a short-circuit, also had this issue on my A4, since i unplugged it and the bluetooth module i have zero drain.
